Our story

It all started with a group of beer loving mates and a dream to start our own brewery.

It may have remained just that – a dream – but the catalyst to turn the dream into a reality came when we were inspired by our mate, who was suffering from Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

Over a few beers we imagine a word where every beer we’d ever had did a little bit of good…

We kicked things off by enlisting the support of around 50 Melbourne pubs in an attempt to create Victoria’s most charitable happy hour. It was a cracking success… so now we’ve continued on from where we started, living our beer dream, while raising funds to support our mate’s cause.

We champion good beer, celebrate the good things in life, and give back through the sale of our canned and kegged beer to our supportive on and off premise customers, where each sale contributes toward our total fundraising efforts in the Fight against MND.

With your support, we hope to pour out the goodness for years to come.

Our impact

Together we make a difference – and with your support our mission is to contribute towards finding a cure for MND. According to the team at Fight MND, the best way to do that is through clinical research and drug trials.

Thanks to the venues that support us, and the Brewmanitarian’s who drink our beer, we have raised significant awareness, as well as more than $970,000 for FightMND.

These funds can be used to test and screen 9,700 potential new therapies… with each new test we are one step closer to beating this beast.

Sip & Sizzle - Local Support

Our venue in South Melbourne gives us a great opportunity to support the local people, causes, clubs, and community groups who make up the fabric of our fantastic local community.

Are you a local sporting club, community group, or fundraising committee? Well a huge kudos to you for all that you do! To celebrate and thank you for your work in the community, we’ve recently launched our ‘Sip & Sizzle’ program. Local community groups can apply to turn a Happy Hour into a community Sip and Sizzle event. We’ll arrange a dedicated ‘Kudos Keg’ where patrons donate instead of paying for their beer, and a BBQ for you to run on the deck for the sausage sizzle – with all the proceeds donated to your cause, club, or association.

David Neitz, Jamie Fox

Brewmanity Co-founder David Neitz’s introduction to craft was back in 2009 on a trip to Belgium. Captivated by the variety of beer styles, and the unique glassware accompanying each style, his eyes were opened to a new world!

Having already known Jamie Fox for a while – who played a key role in the pioneering days of craft by bringing many of the early Matilda Bay brews to market – Neita’s Belgium return kicked off many brews and long chats about partnering to do something of their own “one of these days”.

But it wasn’t until 2015 that they launched Brewmanity alongside their mate Paul Hopgood, with the catalyst being the charitable mission of making Good Beer that does Good Deeds in support of Neale Daniher and his Fight against MND.

8 years later, the Brew team is led by Tim Miller, who joined us after stints at Matilda Bay (where he worked with Jamie for a few years), then 3 Ravens, and finally Little Creatures. In a nice circular moment, Tim actually contributed to the hop selection of our first ever beer!

Our brewery and bar is the result of a partnership with publican Sam Tresise, who had an old glass factory adjacent to his South Melbourne venue and an interest in turning it into a brewery.

What started as a conversation about a bespoke brewery with a rooftop deck ‘escalated a little’ to what we have now!
